You wake up one morning and suddenly, you can't see up close. Yikes! You've noticed that you've had to hold your reading material further away for a few months, but haven't had any major issues until now. Unfortunately this condition, known as presbyopia (prez-bee-o-pia), occurs in 100% of the population around the age of 40-45. But fortunately for you, there are MANY options out there to deal with it!
First of all, you could try a pair of reading glasses, bifocals, or no-line bifocals, but glasses can be cumbersome for those who are used to wearing contact lenses or no correction at all. Contact lenses are a fantastic option for those who wish to see up close while also being free of glasses.
In the past few years, great advancements have been made in multifocal contact lenses, allowing you to more easily see up close without affecting distance vision too much. Our favorite new multifocal contact lens is a daily disposable, so you wear it once and throw it away. Easy peasy! The 1-Day Acuvue Moist Multifocal provides great vision at distance, intermediate, and near, is great for low-light conditions, and it's super comfortable. The lenses are also UV protected and designed to work with the aging eye to achieve the best possible vision. If you've never worn lenses before, we teach you how to put them in and take them out, as well as how to care for them. There's no reason not to try them!
There are also monthly replacement multifocal options available. While not as convenient as daily disposables (you'll have to buy solution to disinfect them and worry about keeping them clean), they're great alternatives for many patients. If one lens isn't your favorite, there are always other options available and we can't wait to work with you to find the perfect contact lenses to suit your needs.
Until next time,
